Fashion Fun Fact:
“Saffiano Style Leather” is not actually a natural type of leather. It obtains the name after a special process of impregnating/stamping the leather.
It’s main characteristics are the diagonal lines and cross-hatch pattern which are machine-pressed with a wax coating into leather made from calf skin, giving it a slight sheen finish. This process makes the leather very durable and resistant to scratches.
The history of the Saffiano starts in 1913
Saffiano Leather originated in one of the most famous tanneries in Italy and was invented by Mario Prada himself. Hence the name Prada Saffiano.
The house obtained a patent for this leather finish and production for the first Prada Saffiano handbag began. After the patent expired, other fashion houses such as MCM, Donna Karan or Céline started using this type of leather for their bags and accessory collections.
Saffiano leather can also be made of faux leather (also called vegan leather) and due to it’s durability, sturdiness and water resistance, but still giving it a feel of elegance and class. it is the perfect outer material for the BrunchBag.
